Assignment #3

Class date: Friday, Jan. 18

I have 2 short things I would like you to read:

1.)From the reading packet in SAC, read the passage from the novel The Catcher in the Rye. In it, the main character (“Holden”) discusses how angry it makes him when he sees graffiti on the wall at his younger sisters (“Phoebe”) school.

2.)Go to this website http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/03/realestate/03post.html?_r=2&oref=slogin&oref=slogin and read the news article about a graffiti mural that included painting by Basquiat found recently in a New York building.

For Your Writing Book: Create 1 page of your own graffiti. If you had a blank wall, what would you put on it?

Have a nice weekend, see you in class next week!! I'm going to check your Writing Books, so have all 3 writings in there!

1-Holden felt very sad and depressed when he saw the graffiti in the school of his young sister phoebe. He remembered the different in the school when Holden studied. When he saw somebody written, “fuck you” on the wall he felt crazy. Holden didn’t understand what are this means and for what written this things in the wall. He figured it was disgusting. Holden didn’t make nothing for changed the vandalism it sense more depressed and bothered.
2-This graffiti mural is very extensive. I think that it would represent vandalism but has arts to paint that. In this way of expression is very important what and where the artist paint. Maybe Basquiat expressed his feelings but didn’t think in the place that he painted.

I read the story and I would do the same. It is offensive write those things on the walls. Many people watching that and thinking bad things are what probably will happen in on some cases. Is unpleasant to see stuff like that written on the walls, especially in a school; because the children will learn about that and then will start vandalize private property. We have to give the example to the children.

1. I think that Holden felt angry in the school of their sister due to that thought that those words offended their young sister. It’s a true. The graffiti is art, but should be utilized to offend nobody. What creates this is that be considered the graffiti vandalism.

2. In this wall painted by Basquiat is shown that the graffiti is art and not vandalism, because they can express their feelings.

Holden feels very mad when seeing the graffiti in a wall the school Phoebe, its dear sister. He is shown very upset since the graffiti ''fuck you'' said. Holden falls in desperation and anguishes when seeing that this graffiti remained in that wall and they didn't make anything. He observed the graffiti and he said that the friends give Phoebe and people that observed it they are a drove crazy when allowing similar graffiti with the sentence '' fuck you''. Also, it assured that they should accuse and to punish the responsible for one to make that horrible and irritating graffiti. On the other hand Holden despaired the school that he studied much since it was not given these types vandalism. Holden felt very offended that graffiti in the wall and didn't understand for that reason carried out them.

Inthe lecture THE Catcher in the Rye, (Holden) the character is bother or sad to see a graffiti and haved to bother because th graffiti is only a ofensive word. Besides, where is located is not a better places, because the school is for studyand not to see that type of massages.
On the contrary in the article I think that it isnt vandalism because is in the apartment and they will have permit to do. In this graffiti it totally diferent to the graffiti of the school, since this come with massages about what is happening in that specifis time.
